Murray and Dickson Construction has played host to the Techno Girl Job Shadowing Programme since April 2015. This Programme aims to encourage and increase the intake of women in careers related to the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) fields.
The 4 girls, who joined us as part of this programme, have spent a total of 6 weeks with the company. They have visited sites, spoken to each head of department and learnt about the construction industry as a whole, from office based work to site specific functions.
Ayanda, Boipelo, Cornie and Thabiso are now in Grade 10 and we are still working with them in an effort to ready them for the working world and hope that they do take up a career in the STEM field.
In September this year, the Minister in the Presidency Responsible for Women wrote M&D a Letter of Appreciation, thanking us for our participation in this programme.
