The team at the Fittings Factory have been busy the past year (2015). They have produced some of the most expensive and complicated fittings for the O6 Pipeline and DRA Reservoir projects, both in mild steel and stainless steel.
The picture below is of one of the six Thickened Tees supplied to the Rand Water 06 Contract. These Tees are welded into the mainline for off takes and are fabricated by rolling a 40 mm thick plate onto a 2180 mm OD (outside diameter) pipe barrel in lengths varying between 2.0 and 4.0 metres. Once welded and radiographed, the ends are machined down to a 16 mm bevel to accommodate the welding of the fitting into the main pipeline. The branch fitted to the barrel is welded to an opening made by using a computerized numerically controlled horizontal boring mill which ensures 100% accuracy.
The Tees manufactured vary in cost, ranging between half a million and one million rands.
